On 6 December 2024, the Australian Bureau of Statistics released OSCA 2024 v1.0, a new classification that replaces ANZSCO for use in Australia.
The short version
- OSCA 2024 replaces ANZSCO in Australia. The ABS states: “OSCA replaces the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) for use in Australia.” (ABS OSCA release, 6 Dec 2024)
- New Zealand is moving separately. ABS and Stats NZ ended their joint ANZSCO custodianship in 2024. New Zealand is developing its own National Occupation List (NOL) rather than adopting OSCA. (About OSCA, ABS, page dated 18 Aug 2025)
- Migration still runs on ANZSCO 2022 for now. The Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) is benchmarked to the November 2022 release of ANZSCO. No confirmed date exists for when Home Affairs will switch migration to OSCA. (Home Affairs skill occupation list)
- The 2025 Occupation Shortage List covers both. Jobs and Skills Australia published the 2025 OSL (released October 2025) in two versions: one mapped to ANZSCO 2022, one mapped to OSCA 2024.
What it means for you
If you are a skilled worker using your code for a visa application: your ANZSCO code still applies. The CSOL, the MLTSSL, and the skills-assessment authorities all reference ANZSCO 2022. For example, Software Engineer (261313) sits on the CSOL and on New Zealand’s Green List under its current ANZSCO code. Nothing in your application changes today.
Keep an eye on Home Affairs announcements. A future update may migrate the occupation lists to OSCA codes, and your code could change at that point. We will update the occupation pages here when that happens.
If you are a migration agent or HR professional: the 2025 OSL gives you an OSCA mapping alongside the ANZSCO one. The ANZSCO column is the one that matters for visa nominations right now. The OSCA column is forward-looking, not yet operative for migration purposes.
Check before you rely on it
Classification changes happen in stages, and the migration-specific rules lag the statistical release. The two things to verify before acting are:
- Is your ANZSCO code still on the relevant list? Check the current occupation lists on the Home Affairs skill occupation list page.
- Has Home Affairs announced an OSCA transition date? No date is confirmed as at October 2025. Check the same page for any updates.
You can browse all ANZSCO 2022 occupations on this site, including current list membership and shortage ratings for each code. If you are not sure which code fits your work history, you can try the CV matcher to see the closest matches.
For advice on how a classification change affects your specific visa pathway, speak to a registered migration agent.
