On 1 July 2025, the three salary thresholds that set the floor for most skilled-worker nominations in Australia increased.
The short version
- The Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) rose to AUD 76,515 for the 2025-26 year (up from AUD 73,150, which applied from 7 December 2024 to 30 June 2025). The CSIT covers the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) Core Skills stream and ENS subclass 186 Direct Entry.
- The Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) rose to AUD 141,210 (up from AUD 135,000). The SSIT is the gate for the Specialist Skills stream, which is not limited to the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).
- The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) also rose to AUD 76,515 (up from AUD 73,150). TSMIT applies to the subclass 494 and RSMS 187 streams.
- These thresholds are indexed annually, effective 1 July each year. The figure in force at the date of nomination is the one that applies.
All figures are sourced from the Home Affairs salary requirements page.
What it means for you
If you are a skilled worker being nominated: the salary your sponsor offers must meet or exceed the relevant threshold at the time the nomination is lodged. If your nomination was lodged between 7 December 2024 and 30 June 2025, the lower thresholds applied then. Nominations lodged from 1 July 2025 must meet the new figures.
If you are a registered migration agent or employer: update your salary benchmarks now. The CSIT and TSMIT are both AUD 76,515 from 1 July 2025. The SSIT is AUD 141,210. Any nomination lodged from that date needs to clear the new floor.
For Software Engineer (261313), which sits on the CSOL and is eligible under the Core Skills stream, the CSIT of AUD 76,515 is the relevant minimum to check for Core Skills nominations. The SSIT of AUD 141,210 applies if the nomination goes via the Specialist Skills stream instead.
